Porcelain Veneers
Veneers are porcelain facings that help maintain a permanent beautiful white smile. Porcelain veneers are an ultra-thin shell of ceramic material that is bonded to the front of the teeth. This procedure usually requires little or no anesthesia. It is an ideal choice for improving the appearance of the front teeth. Porcelain veneers are highly resistant to stains caused by coffee, tea and cigarette smoke.
At the first visit the doctor determines if the patient is a good candidate for veneers. The course of treatment is also discussed and x-rays are taken. Once a plan is in place, the next appointment is scheduled. At this appointment, the tooth is prepared by removing a thin layer of enamel. The doctor makes an impression of the prepared tooth to send to the laboratory where the permanent veneers are designed. A temporary veneer is put on the tooth until the permanent one is placed, which is approximately three weeks later.
Porcelain veneers are effective solutions for chipped, cracked or worn teeth. They can also close gaps or hide discolored teeth and straighten slightly misaligned teeth without braces. This is one way to gain more confidence and brighten your smile.
Teeth Whitening
For anybody who would like a white smile, teeth whitening is an option for everyone who has a healthy mouth! Marketing is beginning to outpace research, and for this reason it is important that you discuss with your dentist which whitening procedures are best for you.
There are a few options available here at Center Street Dental. First, we offer Crest White Strips, which the patient can take home. These strips are twice as strong as the white strips that can be purchased at the store.
The second option is to be fitted with custom bleaching trays. This requires two appointments. Impressions are made at the first appointment and the bleaching trays and bleaching material are delivered at the second appointment. The patient continues the treatments at home until the desired whitening effect takes place.
The third option is to have a whitening procedure performed by the dentist at the office. This is a one time visit where the dentist applies the bleaching agent to the teeth and a curing light activates the bleaching agent. Regardless of the bleaching type, patients need to do touch up bleaching. Patients leave the office with a touch up kit to maintain the bleaching effect achieved at the office.
